SDU Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) invite applications for a 4+4 PhD position. To apply for the 4+4 PhD position, it is required that the applicant is enrolled in one of SDU Master’s programs and has completed the first semester. The position is located at the section Electrical Engineering in Sønderborg within the CIE.

CIE is embedded in a powerhouse in electronics, which includes researchers and developers at universities and industries on both sides of the Danish-German border. CIE is a new initiative striving for high quality and great impact of its research, innovation, and education. Central to achieving this objective is access to state-of-the-art facilities and close collaborations with industries.

We are looking for highly motivated and ambitious students with excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken), who can work well in a team as well as independently and quickly acquire knowledge in new topics. 

The aim of the position is to build strong knowledge and competencies within modern electrolytic including development of lifetime models and material characterization to produce a state-of-the art high voltage electrolytic capacitor.

Job description

  • You will conduct research in the field of modern electrolytic capacitors, develop models for lifetime prediction, methods to predict and test for reliability, understand physics of failures at elevated temperature. Research should be validated by theoretical, modelling, and experimental methods.
  • You will participate in planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partners.
  • You will be involved in the daily supervision of master and bachelor students.
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
  • You will assist in teaching activities.

The application must include a research plan of max. 3 pages, indicating the candidates expected research for the 4-year PhD period. The plan must include problem motivation, state of art, research question, proposed methodology, and expected results. The research plan must address and indicate the applicants’ competence to execute the research plan.

Important information before applying
To be considered for the position it is required that the applicant is enrolled in a Master's programme (kandidatuddannelse) at the Faculty of Engineering, SDU, and has completed the first year at the time for enrollment.

The 4+4 PhD fellowship programme is divided into a 22 months grant period followed by an employment period. When the master's degree (kandidatuddannelse) is achieved and you as least have attained a grad of 10 (Danish scale), you will be employed at the same terms as a 3-year PhD fellowship. The enrollment and employment will cease without further notice at the end of the 4-year period. A PhD fellow is not allowed to have any kind of sideline employment, while enrolled as PhD fellow at the faculty.

Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • Motivation letter. Upload in the field called “Project description”.
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae.
  • Verified copies of the official bachelor diploma and transcripts of exams plus master's transcripts of exams, both the original documents and in professional English translation.
  • Completed TEK PhD form for calculation grade point average. Find the form at the Faculty website. Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”. 
  • An official document describing the grading scheme of the awarding universities (if not Danish). Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”. 
  • Research plan (max 3. pages)
  • List of publications and maximum 2 examples of relevant publications, in case you have any publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication.
  • References (names and emails) and reference letters may also be included. You're welcome to use the form for reference letter at the faculty website. the Faculty website.
