We are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague for a 1-year postdoc position starting 1 June 2024 with a prolongation option of 1 additional year, affiliated with the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE), located at the SDU campus in Sønderborg. The position is within the field of Power Engineering and the successful candidate holds a strong interest in industrial applications and cooperation. The centre currently has approximately 30 faculty members including senior (full and associate professors), junior (assistant professors and postdocs), PhDs, and support staff. 

The task portfolio of the postdoc will be linked to one main project and several smaller projects within CIE. CIE is embedded in a powerhouse in electronics, which includes researchers and developers at universities and industries on both sides of the Danish-German border. CIE is a new initiative striving for high quality and great impact of its research, innovation, and education. Central to achieving this objective is access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations with industries.

The positions aim to build strong knowledge and competencies within the field of Power Engineering, especially in the fields of microgrids, stability analysis, control of power electronics converters, and simulations. 

Job description

  • You will conduct research in the field of power engineering with a focus on one of the fields mentioned above.
  • You will participate in the planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partners.
  • You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, Master, and Bachelor students who perform research on similar topics.
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
  • You will assist in teaching activities.

Profile and requirements

  • You have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields.
  • You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the field.
  • You are interested in a longer-term commitment to a growing research group, and you are willing to work in close cooperation with industry.
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.
  • You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
  • You have experience in one or more of the following fields:

1. Power management of smart grids

2. AC, DC, and hybrid AC/DC microgrids

3. Decentralized, centralized, and hierarchical control methods

4. Simulation of converter-dominant systems in MATLAB, PSIM, PLECS, and PSCAD

5. Voltage balancing circuits of supercapacitors

Assessment and selection process

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee or an expert. Shortlisting may be used. Only shortlisted candidates will be assessed. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the faculty. Interviews and tests may be part of the selection process.   

Conditions of employment

Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
